“The bigger technological change on the near horizon is the mergence of a new, modular method of building software known as web services. The impact could be as profound as anything since the dawn of commercial computing in the 1950s. The 21st century will bring about the reinvention of Adam Smith. In the industrial Age he talked about the power of specialization. Now we have a platform to bring together specialized services from all over. We have a chance to look for radical specialization and, all productivity enhancements that flow from that.
The logic behind this is that computers have imposed a kind of tyranny on companies. We are in a position where IT systems are like monolithic blocks of concrete used as the excuse not to change anything.
Getting systems to talk with one another within corporations has proven so difficult that giant “Enterprise Resource Planning” systems have been imposed to tie everything together. Yet these systems are so cumbersome and difficult to change that the structure of the enterprise is, in effect, set in stone. Let’s not start talking about the difficulty of connecting systems of different organizations!
The statement above reflects Hollitech’s view of the IT situation in our world today. Connectivity issues with legacy systems, wrong and redundant data structures usually cause project failures, delays and out of control cost budgets. The reality is that many corporations and organizations lack system integration. There are still many duplication and manual interventions in the data entry in the business processes, whether it is a financial institution or industrial company. The Straight – Through – Process (STP) in many organizations does not work well, leading to huge efficiency losses.
Example (frame):
Many departments are involved in handling an order: Sales, Client Services, Warehouse, Transport, Accounts Receivable, Finance, etc. However, every department has its own data structure and information systems, often leading to data redundancy and information inconsistencies. Unfortunate the discovery of these fallacies happens when problems like wrong deliveries, unknown status of orders, wrong overdue reports, etc. surface at a later stage of the business process, often resulting in costly corrective measures.
We believe in the revolution that is still to come. We work hard every day to show our clients that huge productivity gains can be achieved by using web services and straight through processing.
Let us unlock this value in your organization!
